J.G.B.: Now I’m going to go onto the theme for this week. It is different. It is a theme that
is very immediate, concerning our daily life together. But it also has a much deeper
philosophical significance. Let’s call the theme Noise and Silence. You all must have
noticed that we’ve been allowing a great deal of noise to develop in this house, and
maybe you thought that this was unimportant. But noise is essentially a negative thing.
It is wasteful, it is chaotic. It is a state of disorder. Harmonious sound is not noise, but
we can’t have harmonious sound in the presence of noise, and we can’t have silence.
